Ever since I can remember I have loved to create. I found myself constantly experimenting with so many mediums. I consider myself a bit of a Renaissance man. I love all the arts. There is a difficulty in spreading yourself out, in that, one could run the risk of not being known for any one thing in particular. Still, I never look back. I just try to keep moving foward with everything that I learn, and every mistake that I make.
I was born and raised in a very musical family. I thank my parents for all the time and love they spent in me to give me the tools to be who I could and should be. I have been very privileged to have them as parents. My Father has been a teacher for a number of years on the college level and has always been involved in creating music on a professional level. I have been able to witness a master in the arts in my own home. My mother, also a great musician, has been classically trained in voice and I had her as a choir teacher throughout high school.

I weave with cotton and rayon, in tiny yarns. In 16 harness twill, with a dobby head. A dobby head is a historic method of obtaining intricate weaving patterns and was the inspiration for the early punch card computers.
I studied textiles at Purdue University. It breaks my heart to see so many colleges closing down their handweaving programs. Especially as a new generation of artists are being interested in fiber as an art medium again.

My name is Paula DeMoss; I was born in New York City the youngest girl of twelve siblings. My brother and I, a twin named Paul are 49 years old. I have 8 other brothers and 2 sisters. My mother was from the islands of St. Thomas and my father, a military man born in Florida. They married and moved to NYC where they raised all of us under one roof. We lived in the lower east side of New York City in the projects of Lillian Wald Houses. When I was old enough my main purpose was to move as far away as I could from there and I did. I married at the young age of 19, bore two children and moved to Brooklyn...not much difference. After many years of up and downs and a divorce, I moved to the South. I remarried at the age of 43 and added two more children to my lot, two beautiful boys.
I was New Yorker now living in the south, and trying to adjust; which was not easy. After a traumatic event in my life, I started doodling and as I did the images became clearer with every stroke of the pencil. I began to see the images magically appear gradually. I consider abilities to be a gift from my higher power. I neither studied, nor had any idea I was an artist. I draw from the spirit, I do not plan what I draw, but am inspired by emotion and truth. I believe my purpose is to inspire love and peace to all I come in contact with and to help release the child within all of us. I now see art in everything and everything I see is art ;beautifully and wonderfully created.
